PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recognition device for a vehicle which cuts out a subject image from an image imaged by an on-vehicle camera and displays the subject image without distortion.SOLUTION: An on-vehicle camera 2 which displays the subject image imaged by the on-vehicle camera 2 on a display 3 including a screen GA whose aspect ratio of the vertical and horizontal sides is different from that of a subject image G1 includes: a photographic optical system 6; an imaging element 7 in which the imaged subject image G1 is formed; an image cutout circuit 8a which generates a cutout image G1' by digitalizing the subject image formed in the imaging element 7 and cutting the subject image by an aspect ratio corresponding to an aspect ratio of a screen GA'; an image extension circuit 8b which generates an extension image G2' whose aspect ratio corresponds to an aspect ratio of the subject image G1 by extending the cutout image G1'; and a digital/analog signal conversion circuit 9 which converts the extension image G2' generated by the image extension circuit 8b into an analog signal in the NTSC system and outputs it to the display 3.
