Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing isoprene at production rates, titers, and purity that are sufficient to meet the demands of a commercial process.SOLUTION: A method of producing isoprene includes (a) a step of culturing recombinant cells including a heterologous nucleic acid encoding an isoprene synthase polypeptide under culture conditions suitable for isoprene production in the gas phase, and (b) a step of generating isoprene in the gas phase, where the gas phase comprises isoprene, the concentration of which falls within the nonflammable range, and less than or about 9.5% (volume) oxygen, and the cells produce greater than about 400 nmole/g/hr of isoprene.
