Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material excellent in discharge capacity and rate characteristics of a lithium ion secondary battery and to provide a lithium ion secondary battery.SOLUTION: The positive electrode active material for a lithium ion secondary battery is a chemical compound represented by a chemical formula: LiVOPO, wherein a crystal system of the chemical compound does not contain a triclinic system and is composed of an orthorhombic system single phase, and a tetravalent vanadium amount in LiVOPOis 27.7 weight% or more and 28.2 weight% or less, further preferably, 27.7 weight% or more and 27.9 weight% or less.
