APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR FORMING IMAGE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which has a deflection amount detecting means for detecting the deflection amount of an elastic member corresponding to the weight of a roll paper and eliminates the load by the elastic member to a drive motor for driving the roll paper and the damage to a medium.SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus include a strain gage 12 for outputting an output signal corresponding to the deflection amount of a support 10 (elastic member) due to the weight of a roll label paper 1a, and a roll paper-remaining amount determining means for determining the roll paper remaining level based on an output level of the strain gage output signal by the strain gage 12, and allows a user to print on the roll label paper 1a. There is provided a position switching mechanism for switching the position of the support 10 between a roll paper-remaining amount determining position deflecting according to the weight of the roll label paper 1a and a save position away from the roll label paper 1a.
