Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control device capable of controlling a rotary electric machine to perform a regeneration operation and improving energy efficiency of a vehicle without causing a friction engagement element to excessively generate heat, and improving the drivability of the vehicle by decreasing the number of times of shifting gears.SOLUTION: A vehicle control device 10 determines a target gear at a time of shifting gears, and determines whether a temperature of a main body-side friction engagement element transmitting a regenerative braking force while making slip rotation is higher than a permissible temperature set for each friction engagement element when a present gear is shifted to the target gear. If determining that the temperature of this main body-side friction engagement element is higher than the permissible temperature, the vehicle control device 10 sets a torque capacity of the main body-side friction engagement element during the slip rotation so that the temperature of the main body-side friction engagement element is equal to or lower than the permissible temperature, and actuates a braking device 8 of each wheel 4 so as to reduce a fluctuation in an output torque transmitted to the wheel 4 during the slip rotation.
