Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a silicon oxide which is useful as a negative electrode active material in a negative electrode material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery that is excellent in cycle characteristics, while maintaining the high battery capacity and low volume expansion of the silicon oxide; and a method for producing the silicon oxide; a negative electrode comprising the silicon oxide; and a lithium ion secondary battery and an electrochemical capacitor.SOLUTION: A silicon oxide for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery negative electrode material has a Co content of 2-200 ppm.
