Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination device in which a cover hardly comes off when a user touches it.SOLUTION: A suspension type illumination device 1 includes: a light emitting part 4 in which a semiconductor light-emitting element 52 is a light source, and which is arranged with its light emitting direction down; a case 3 which covers an upper side of the light emitting part 4; and a translucent cover 80 which covers the lower side of the light emitting part 4, which is connected to the case 3 and which accommodates the light emitting part 4 between the case 3 and itself. In the illumination device 1, when a first virtual straight line V1 which is a vertical straight line passing through an outer peripheral edge 20a, which is a portion of the outermost side of the case 3 at a boundary part 5 between the case 3 and the cover 80, is assumed, in a vertical cross section, an outer peripheral edge 80a, which is the portion of the outermost side of the cover 80 at the boundary part 5, is located on the first virtual straight line V1 or located at inner side than the first virtual straight line V1.
