PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sign recognition device for a vehicle that enables recognition of both of an electric sign and a fixture sign without increasing a process burden.SOLUTION: A sign recognition device 1 for a vehicle recognizing a sign existing ahead a vehicle has: a camera 2 that photographs an image ahead the vehicle; an image extraction section 10 that extracts an extraction image in a search window having a predetermined size from the image photographed by the camera; a luminance difference calculation section 12 that calculates a luminance difference between luminance of the extraction image in an outer side determination frame along a circumference of a virtual circle included in the search window and arranged on the outer side of the circumference and luminance of the extraction image in an inner side determination frame adjacent to the outer side determination frame and arranged on an inner side of the circumference; and a sign determination section 6 determining that, when the luminance difference calculated by the luminance difference calculation section is a predetermined value or higher, an image of a sign is included in the search window.
