PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a developing apparatus configured to prevent insufficient agitation of developer, and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: A developing unit 100 provided in an image forming apparatus 1 includes a developer storage chamber 160, a developing roller 110, a first agitation conveyance member 120, a layer thickness regulation member 150, and a projection 200. The projection 200 is formed in a position which is closer to the layer thickness regulation member 150 with respect to the first agitation conveyance member 120 on a wall surface 105a forming the developer storage chamber 160 and closer to the first agitation conveyance member 120 than the layer thickness regulation member 150. The projection 200 projects toward between the developing roller 110 and the first agitation conveyance member 120. A tip of the projection 200 is located in an area having magnetic flux density of 85% or more with respect to a maximum value of magnetic flux density Y1 in a tangential direction between a layer regulation pole M1 of the developing roller 110 and a pickup pole M2.
