Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lactic acid bacterium growth promoter which promotes growth of lactic acid bacterium remarkably and exhibiting effects as prebiotics when human intake the same, and to provide a yogurt containing the same.SOLUTION: A lactic acid bacterium growth promoter has a weight average molecular weight of 10000 to 300000 and contains agar adjusted to have the reducing sugar content of 0.12 to 2.0. The molecular weight distribution of agar (Mw/Mn) is preferably 15 or less. Alternatively, pH of the 1.5 wt.% solution of agar is preferably 4.0 to 5.8. Further the invention is a yogurt containing any above mentioned lactic acid bacterium growth promotion agent and lactic acid bacterium, and the content of agar is 0.05 to 2.0 wt.%.
