Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic device for an internal combustion engine capable of suitably removing a foreign substance bitten between a valve and a valve seat on which the valve is seated.SOLUTION: A lash adjuster 20 supports a load of a rocker arm 17 acting on a tip of a plunger by hydraulic pressure in a hydraulic chamber. According to the rotation of a cam 16, its nose 16a comes into contact with the rocker arm 17, and the rocker arm 17 rocks with the tip of the plunger being a fulcrum, so that a suction valve 11 is opened/closed. Supply and stop of hydraulic oil to the lash adjuster 20 is switchable by an OSV 53 as a switching valve. When it is determined that a foreign substance is bitten between the suction valve 11 and a valve seat 49a on which the suction valve 11 is seated, the supply of hydraulic oil to the lash adjuster 20 is stopped by the OSV 53.
