PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively use a space in a factory in installation of a machine tool 1 in the factory.SOLUTION: A head stock 13 is configured in such a manner that when a movable sleeve 25 moves toward an opposite side of a headstock 5 side beyond a stroke S,a ball screw 37 regulates movement of a press rod 49 to the opposite side of the headstock 5 side with respect to a tail stock block 17,the press rod 49 moves toward the headstock 5 side relatively from a standard relative position with respect to a support pipe 31 while resisting energization force of a spring 57, and presses an end surface of a base end part of a center 15 toward the headstock 5 side.
