Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an activating device for granular carbide of cellulose acetate for obtaining active carbon with a low metal content capable of being utilized as the electrode substance of a capacitor even without performing complicated cleaning by activating the granular carbide of cellulose acetate.SOLUTION: The activation apparatus being an external heat type rotary kiln comprising: a heat resistant cylindrical body 13 for activating the granular carbide of cellulose acetate to obtain activated carbon; hoods 14, 15 respectively provided at both the edge parts thereof and rotatably supporting the heat resistant cylindrical body; a feed port 16 for the granular carbide 11 of the cellulose acetate provided at either hood 17 for the granular carbide 12 provided at the other hood and subjected to activation treatment; and an activation gas feed port 18 provided at either hood. At least the inside surface of the heat resistant cylindrical body 13 is formed from a ceramics material, and also, at least the exhaust passage 17 for the granular carbide subjected to activation treatment and a surface region including the circumference of the exhaust port 17a are formed from a ceramic material.
