PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a banknote processing machine capable of effectively detecting poor binding.SOLUTION: A banknote processing machine includes: a slide-down unit 53 which slides small banknote bundles T bound by a binding unit in an obliquely downward direction; a catcher unit 65 which catches the small banknote bundles T sliding down the slide-down unit 53; poor binding detection means 81 and 82 for detecting poor binding on the small banknote bundles T caught by the catcher unit 65; and a bundle conveyer unit 26 which conveys the small banknote bundles T caught by the catcher unit 65 either to a bundle dispensing port or a bundle storage unit. The slide-down unit 53 and the catcher unit 65 proactively cause poor binding to be evident and detected by the poor binding detection means 81 and 82 for the small banknote bundles T with potential poor binding.
