PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet conveying device for simplifying a structure more than the conventional product by providing the structure capable of aligning conveyance direction tips of sheets to be a conveyance object, and an image reader.SOLUTION: A film member 31 has a stationary part 31B partially fixed to an original platen 16 side, and a displacement part 31A in which another portion provided to connect the stationary part 31B can displace between a first position and a second position at a boundary part with the fixing part 31B in accordance with a change in a bent state of the boundary part. In the case that the displacement part 31A is located at the first position, the displacement part 31A can be used as a positioning member for aligning conveyance direction tip parts of a document D to a prescribed position by bringing the conveyance direction tip parts of the document D loaded on the original platen 16 into contact with the displacement part 31A. When making a separation roller 12 perform normal rotation to convey the document D fed from the original platen 16 in a conveyance direction, the displacement part 31A is displaced from the first position to the second position so as not to prevent the document D from being conveyed.
