PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent article, making not only three-dimensional gathers but also leg gathers function as a leakage preventive wall for preventing leakage of a liquid such as urine by effectively raising the leg gathers formed on both end sides in the transverse direction of an absorber.SOLUTION: An absorbent article includes: a liquid permeable top sheet 10; a liquid impermeable back sheet 20; an absorber 30 interposed between the sheets; and a leg gathers expanding and contracting member 40 disposed in the stretched state on both right and left sides of the absorber. The absorber has a recess part 31 narrowed by curving or deflecting both right and left side edges toward the inside of the absorber at a part in the longitudinal direction. The leg gathers expanding and contracting member is located within a range in the longitudinal direction of the recess part when the length in the longitudinal direction in the contracted state is smaller than the length in the longitudinal direction of the recess part and it enters the contracted state.
