Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide yeast capable of producing ethanol efficiently as well as a method of producing ethanol using the same.SOLUTION: Ethanol producing yeast of the invention is a transformant which has xylose metabolic enzyme genes, and which satisfies at least one of the conditions (X) or (Y): (X) a yeast transformant whose HST1 protein is inactivated; and (Y) a yeast transformant to which an expression vector of QNS1 genes is introduced. Ethanol can be efficiently produced by culturing the ethanol producing yeast of the invention under the presence of xylose, allowing effective utilization of biomass comprising xylose or the like as a raw material.
