PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple constitution for improving document-reading quality in parallel execution of a document reading operation and an image forming operation of a recording material.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: a rotatable document reader 100 at a document reading position where a document is read; opposite plates 102 and 103 which are provided at positions facing the document reader 100 via document transportation paths 81 and 80 and have position detection patterns readable by the document reader 100 formed thereon; and a CPU 801 for controlling the rotation of the document reader 100. The CPU 801 controls the rotation of the document reader 100 on the basis of the result of reading, by the document reader 100, the position detection patterns formed on the opposite plates 102 and 103.
