PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer unit which selects whether or not an attenuation force by attenuation means is applied on a tension roller according to a condition at the time of a secondary transfer, and is thereby capable of suppressing generation of a shock jitter attributed to an impulsive vibration caused on an intermediate transfer body when a recording medium enters into a secondary transfer part.SOLUTION: A tension roller 12 is provided with a shaft 15 which rotatably holds the tension roller 12, supports an end side of a spring 14, has a planar part formed on which a butting part 24 of a damper 20 is butt. The butting part 24 provided with the damper 20 having self-resilience on a tip of a piston rod 23 on a bracket 22 is provided through a slide member so as to face the tension roller 12 side. In addition, solenoid 21 for contacting and separating the butting part 24 of the damper 20 is provided on the far side from the tension roller 12 on the bracket 22.
