Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple brake mechanism for a handcart, allowing acquisition of large brake force and allowing acquisition of stable brake performance over a long period.SOLUTION: A brake mechanism for a handcart 1 comprises: a rotary shaft 14 pivotally supported in the width direction of the handle side end edge on the rear face of a deck 2; braking elements 19, 19 installed to both end parts of the rotary shaft 14, and contacting with and coming apart from wheels 3, 3 of the handcart 1 by rotation of the rotary shaft 14; a swing rod 15 fixed to the rotary shaft 14 orthogonally to the shaft direction of the rotary shaft 14; a spring 17 energizing the rotary shaft 14 to a direction to which the braking elements 19, 19 come apart from the wheels 3, 3; and a wire 16 which has one end connected to the swing rod 15 and has the other end connected to a lever 110. By braking operation of the lever 110, the wire 16 rotates the rotary shaft 14, and the braking elements 19, 19 are made to abut on the wheels 3, 3 to perform braking.
