Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based electrode binder for secondary battery having excellent moisture absorption characteristics and adhesion, and available suitably as a water-soluble binder being added to a composition forming an electrode for secondary battery.SOLUTION: In a water-based electrode binder for secondary battery containing a water-soluble polymer, the water-soluble polymer contains 5-95 mass% of structural unit derived from an ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid salt monomer, for total 100 mass% of structural unit of the water-soluble polymer, the content of components derived from a compound having surface activity and a weight-average molecular weight of 100,000 or less is 0.5 mass%, and the weight-average molecular weight is 500,000 or more.
