PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a light storing material having excellent afterglow properties and high brightness.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing a light storing material comprising: selecting (SrCa)AlOas a crystal matrix constitution of an alkaline earth-aluminate light storing phosphor using Euas a light-emitting center, and selecting, as an activator to be the light-emitting center, not EuObut EuO which is a prior reduced EuO, and selecting DyOas an assistant activator for imparting a light storage function; mixing EuO which is the activator with DyOwhich is the assistant activator in a fixed ratio; preparing a mixed material EuO-DyOwhich is sintered and densified; adding the mixed material EuO-DyOinto the material constituting the crystal matrix and mixing; and sintering the mixture to obtain (SrCa)AlO:Eu,Dy.
