PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a nonaqueous electrolyte capable of improving load characteristics and cycle characteristics in a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery; and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery using the nonaqueous electrolyte.SOLUTION: A nonaqueous electrolyte is used for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery including a positive electrode containing a positive electrode active material capable of absorbing/desorbing metal ions, and a negative electrode containing a negative electrode active material capable of absorbing/desorbing metal ions. The nonaqueous electrolyte contains a specific anhydride compound and a carboxylic acid, and the content of the carboxylic acid is 0.00001 mass% or more and less than 0.01 mass% with respect to the total amount of the nonaqueous electrolyte.
