PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid discharge device capable of preventing an inside of the device from being soiled by a liquid discharged from a liquid discharge head, and suppressing decrease of overall throughput of the device.SOLUTION: Determination means, when a plurality of recording media continuously pass through a facing region which faces to a plurality of discharge ports, in each of passing periods between recording media, determines whether or not a liquid needs to be discharged from the discharge port to a liquid receptacle by liquid discharge means (A4). Then, the liquid discharge means discharges the liquid in the passing period between recording media in which the determination means determines that the liquid needs to be discharged (A6). After that, control means, only if an amount of the remaining liquid on the liquid receptacle is a first specified amount or greater (A7:YES), removes the remaining ink on the liquid receptacle (A8).
