Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming quartz glass making it possible to improve the mass yield and life span property of a formed body.SOLUTION: There is provided the method for forming quartz glass, in which quartz glass is heated, melted and formed in a forming mold consisting of a cylindrical body having open upper and lower ends whose inner peripheral surface is used as a forming surface, a bottom board 13 having an upper surface which closes the open lower end of the cylindrical body and which is used as a forming surface and a top board having a lower surface which closes the open top end of the cylindrical body, which is capable of sliding inside the cylindrical body and which is used as a forming surface. The quartz glass is formed while discharging gas from the inside of the forming mold through ditches 14 which are provided on the forming surface of the bottom board 13 and has a cross sectional shape increasingly expanding upward in order to discharge the gas.
