Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector capable of effectively utilizing illumination function and projection function.SOLUTION: A projector 100 can be easily installed by mounting a connection portion to a receptacle 34 for general household illumination. Further, since being provided with a communication section for receiving an e-mail, the projector 100 adjusts a diffusion degree of modulation light by a light diffusion adjustment section while updating an image signal on the basis of contents of the e-mail received by the communication section. Therefore, in a case where one family member wants to tell the other family member coming back home from now that he or she hastily goes out, the projector 100 is activated and can clearly project and display a message while serving illumination function by an illumination switch of a hallway being turned on by the other family member coming back home when he or she transmits an e-mail in which the message is written to the other family member coming back home. Accordingly, the projector 100 can effectively utilize the illumination function and projection function for displaying the message.
