Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant and a lubricant additive, having excellent balance of heat resistant oxidation stability, high temperature cleanability, water resistance and material adaptability, and useful for multiple applications such as an engine oil, a transmission oil, a metal processing oil, a hydraulic oil, and a grease.SOLUTION: A lubricant contains a hydrocarbon based base oil and 0.5 to 20 pts.wt. range of a mixture of phthalic acid diester, obtained by an esterification reaction of phthalic acid, n-nonanol and a liner or branched chain aliphatic saturated alcohol having 4 to 12 carbon atoms (excluding n-nonanol) based on 100 pts.wt. of the hydrocarbon based base oil.
