PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hold a position of a medium floating by being sprayed with gas at a preset position without adding a member.SOLUTION: A paper feeder comprises a spray member (6) for spraying a gas from the side of a medium (S) on the medium loaded on a loading member (2) when the medium is taken out, a spray control part (7) for performing control for changing a floating state of the medium (S) being sprayed with the gas by changing the gas sprayed on the medium by the spray member (6), discrimination means (C8B) for discriminating whether or not a preset condition where carrying capacity of the medium (S) is reduced is satisfied, and lifting control means (C8) for lifting the loading member (2) on the basis of a position of the uppermost surface of the medium (S) when the medium (S) is taken out and lifting the loading member (2) when the condition where the carrying capacity of the medium (S) is reduced is satisfied when the medium (S) is taken out.
