PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately extract case components out of an extracted character string.SOLUTION: An apparatus is provided with extracting means that extracts case components out of a character string extracted from stated claims in a patent specification in an electronic data form. The extracting means, while extracting, where the extracted statement includes a subject-verb relationship and the wording corresponding to the subject is already defined in a prior description, the wording corresponding to the subject as a case component only if the verb is in the passive voice, does not extract the wording corresponding to the subject as a case component if the verb is in the active voice and, if the wording corresponding to the subject is not yet defined in any prior description, extracts the wording corresponding to the subject as a case component in any case.
