PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce light emission for coordinate detection while suppressing the reduction in contrast of a plasma display panel.SOLUTION: One field period comprises a plurality of subfields including an image display subfield for image display, a synchronous detection subfield SFo for generating a synchronous detection discharge, a y-coordinate detection subfield SFy for generating a y-coordinate detection discharge, and an x-coordinate detection subfield SFx for generating an x-coordinate detection discharge. The image display subfield has a write period for which a first write pulse corresponding to an image signal is applied to a data electrode and a first scan pulse is sequentially applied to scan electrodes to generate a write discharge, and the synchronous detection subfield SFo has a write period for which a second write pulse is simultaneously applied to data electrodes and a second scan pulse having a wider pulse width than the first scan pulse is simultaneously applied to scan electrode to generate a write discharge.
