PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a disc device capable of detecting whether a disc is placed properly on a tray of a disc drive while preventing the size of the device from getting larger.SOLUTION: The disc device includes a carrier that places a disc onto a tray of a disc drive. The carrier includes: a disc support section for supporting the disc above the tray; and a transfer mechanism that moves the disc support section between the support position supporting the disc and a standby position away from the disc. The disc support section is arranged so as, when a disc is placed on the tray, to come into contact with the disc to prevent movement from the standby position to the support position.
