Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pre-oxidized fiber, a carbon fiber, and a precursor fiber thereof, which are improved in fiber strength, are low-cost, and are controllable; and to provide a method for producing the same.SOLUTION: There is provided a high-performance carbon fiber obtained by the following steps: mixing polyacrylonitrile and a solvent such that a solid content becomes 0.1 to 25%; adding catalyst potassium permanganate; introducing oxygen-containing gas at a rate of 5 mL/min; pre-oxidizing a spinning solution at a pre-oxidizing temperature of 90°C to 250°C for 1 h to 2.5 h; and spinning this spinning slurry by wet spinning, dry-wet spinning, gel spinning, liquid-crystal spinning, or frozen-gel spinning, followed by washing with water, drawing, and heat setting to obtain a pre-oxidized fiber, which is then subjected to a carbonization process. A method for producing the same is also provided.
