Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display device capable of projecting a uniform bright image onto a projected plane.SOLUTION: The projection type video display device includes a display element, a light guide optical system guiding illumination light to the display element, a projection optical system enlarging and projecting video light modulated by the display element, and polarization conversion means converting the polarization direction of the video light. The polarization conversion means has a plurality of areas different from each other in anisotropic axis. The plurality of areas are arranged so that the border is perpendicular to the optical axis of the projection optical system. The plurality of areas comprise an area to which the video light is applied.
