INTERSECTION RECOGNITION DEVICE AND ROAD TYPE RECOGNITION DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of recognizing an intersection and a type of a drive road more accurately.SOLUTION: A road type recognition device 1 device extracts lane boundary lines around the own vehicle 5, a plurality of road signs or section lines drawn on a road surface from an image around an own vehicle 5, which is obtained by an on-vehicle camera 10, and recognizes an intersection based on positions of the extracted plurality of road signs and the like to the own vehicle 5. Then, in the case where there is a predetermined number or more of the recognized intersections within a predetermined travel distance of the own vehicle 5, which is obtained by a distance meter 30, the road type recognition device 1 recognizes that a type of a road on which the own vehicle 5 is traveling is a road in a city area. In the case where there are less than a predetermined number of the intersections, the road type recognition device 1 recognizes that the type of the road is a road in an area other than a city area. Furthermore, the road type recognition device 1 includes a speed meter 20 which obtains a speed of the own vehicle 5, and recognizes that the type of the road on which the own vehicle 5 is traveling is a highway in the case where the speed of the own vehicle 5 obtained by the speed meter 20 is predetermined speed or more.
