PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user of a buddy mapping application to be given notification on the basis of the actions of any or all individual listed buddies and to be given visibility options prior to becoming visible to buddies.SOLUTION: Provided are a method and system for managing awareness information relating to a mobile device's visibility with respect to other buddy devices, the system comprising: the mobile device; a mobile application listing one or more buddies; an application listener which tracks zoom operations and radar zoom factors of the one or more buddies; and a server comprising an encounter manager program, an approach manager program and a notification marshalling system.
