PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bookbinding apparatus that makes cleaning operations of a paste tank unnecessary, and includes a bookbinding apparatus that can easily clean a coating roller, and a bookbinding system that includes the bookbinding apparatus.SOLUTION: A bookbinding apparatus includes a control part 100 that switches an application mode to apply paste N to a back part Pa of a paper bundle P1 by a paste coating part 50 and a removal mode to remove the paste N that remains in the paste coating part 50. The paste coating part 50 includes: a coating roller 52; a paste removing blade 56 provided at a position separated from the coating roller 52 and removes the paste N maintained on the surface of the coating roller 52; a driving means (pressing release cam drive motor M3 and pressing release cam 56f) to make the paste removing blade 56 contact the surface of the coating roller 52; and a disposal container 55 that is placed at a lower side of the coating roller 52 and accommodates the paste N removed by the paste removing blade 56. When switching to the removal mode, the control part 100 controls the driving means and makes the paste removing blade 56 contact the surface of the coating roller 52.
