Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorbing member that can break a high speed flying object, that can surely inhibit that pieces caused by crush and an impact stress wave penetrate into a rear side, and that is light, can be conveniently manufactured, and is extremely useful as a composing material of protective equipment.SOLUTION: A shock absorbing member 50 is provided with a ceramic assembly 15 that comprises: a plurality of first sheet-like members 5, each of which is formed of a ceramic containing 60% by mass or more of boron carbide and has a thickness of 0.1-50 mm; and a bonding layer that is arranged between two adjacent first sheet-like members 5 and bonds the bonding surfaces of the adjacent first sheet-like members 5 with each other, the bonding surfaces facing each other. The bonding layer is formed of a bonding material that contains at least one metal selected from the group consisting of aluminum, copper, silver and gold.
