Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon material usable for various power storage devices wherein the expansion and shrinkage of metallic tin in the case of charge or discharge are small, a cycle retention ratio is superior because a path cut hardly occurs thereby, and the effect of high capacity as a characteristic the tin is fully exerted; and to provide also a method of manufacturing the carbon material.SOLUTION: There is provided a method of manufacturing a composite carbon material of carbonaceous material, Sn, and SnO, which includes: a step of mixing the carbonaceous material with a bivalent tin compound; a step of obtaining a cabonaceous material/tin compound composite by making a mixture of the carbonaceous material with the tin compound contact with an alkaline material; and a step of burning the carbonaceous material/tin compound composite at 350-900°C in a non-reductive atmosphere.
