Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of reducing mixture of respective screens and obtaining an image high in brightness when displaying the image by distributing light to a plurality of directions by time-division drive.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes: a display panel DP arranged with a plurality of liquid crystal pixels PX approximately in matrix; an illumination portion BL (SBL) having a plurality of light-emitting regions corresponding to a display region divided by every plurality of rows of the liquid crystal pixels and capable of switching light emitted from the light-emitting region to a plurality of directions; and a drive control portion 5 for writing by sequentially scanning the image for every row of the liquid crystal pixels and controlling the light-emitting region to emit light to a predetermined direction from the corresponding light-emitting region. The illumination portion is the liquid crystal display device having a light guide portion provided with the plurality of light-emitting regions and a plurality of pairs of light sources disposed opposite to both end portions of the light guide portion so that light enters in the end portion of the light-emitting region.
