PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a position information providing device and a method therefor that can suppress battery consumption when updating map display.SOLUTION: A method of providing position information to the position information providing device comprises: an azimuth information acquisition step that acquires azimuth information about the position information providing device; a map display step that displays a map on the basis of the position information of the position information providing device; and an update step that updates display of the map. The update step includes a rotation control step that controls a rotation of the map upon updating on the basis of the acquired azimuth information, and the rotation step controls the rotation of the map on the basis of a difference between azimuth information previously acquired by the azimuth information acquisition step and currently acquired azimuth information and a battery status of a battery provided in the position information providing device.
