Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-molecular weight gelling agent that contains in the molecule a Schiff base that responds to pH, a metal ion or a molecule having a specific functional group and can change gelling performance or a structure of gel.SOLUTION: A low-molecular weight gelling agent includes as an effective ingredient a Schiff base derivative represented by general formula (1): A-B-C [wherein A is a structure represented by formula (2); B is a 12-20C hydrocarbon optionally bearing an unsaturated bond; and C is a structure represented by formula (2) or a hydrogen atom].
