A photo detector 21 can detect light from two directions. A cage door safety device forms two light paths different upon door closing operations and upon door opening operations. A first light path is a path in which light emitted horizontally from the projector 17 is admitted into a first admission repeater 18, is transmitted by a first optical fiber 22, and is received by the photo detector 21. A second light path is a path in which light emitted obliquely above from the projector 17 is admitted into a second admission repeater 20, is transmitted by a second optical fiber 23, is emitted obliquely above from an emission repeater 19, and is received by the photo detector 21.
