PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus, an image processing method, a program, and a recording medium, capable of decreasing load of a computer so as to improve a processing speed, and improving a detection rate.SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes: image acquisition means 11 for acquiring distance image information in which a distance from the image acquisition means 11 in an object space is had as a pixel value; ground area extracting means 12 for extracting a ground area from the distance image information; three-dimensional body candidate extracting means 13 for extracting a body located above a ground plane in the ground area; and three-dimensional body detecting means 14 for extracting a three-dimensional body out of the extracted three-dimensional body candidates so as to acquire at least one of distances in height and depth directions.
