Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase a chance for quick restarting by one compression starting, while minimally restraining influence on fuel efficiency, in a compressed self-ignition type engine having an idling stop function.SOLUTION: When an automatic stopping condition of an engine is established, a fuel cut is performed, and fuel pressure increasing control is performed for increasing fuel pressure. At this time, when a predetermined parameter in proportion to compression top dead center pressure in inertial rotation of the engine is higher than a preset predetermined value, timing of the fuel cut is set in the timing slower than starting time of the fuel pressure increasing control, and on the other hand, when the parameter is the predetermined value or less, the timing of the fuel cut is quickened. When restarting the engine, a determination is made on whether or not a piston of a stopping time compression stroke cylinder 2C exists in a specific range on the bottom dead center side more than a reference stopping position, and when existing in the specific range, the engine is restarted by injecting first fuel into the stopping time compression stroke cylinder 2C from a fuel injection valve.
