Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical seal which can prevent a sleeve and a retainer from being damaged.SOLUTION: A mechanical seal 1 includes a static sealing ring 3 fixed on a side of a casing C, a sleeve 4 arranged in integral and rotatable manner on a rotating shaft S penetrating the casing C, a drive collar 5 arranged on a periphery of the sleeve 4 in integral and rotatable manner, a rotating sealing ring 6 which is in linkage with the drive collar 5, is arranged on the periphery of the sleeve 4 in integral and rotatable manner, and makes sliding contact with the static sealing ring 3, and a flexible component 7 which energizes the drive collar 5 in the axial direction to enable the rotating sealing ring 6 to be compressed tightly on the static sealing ring 3. A ring-shaped retainer 8 maintaining the flexible component 7 is integrally formed on the periphery of the sleeve 4.
