Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new bacterium of genus Dehalococcoides having sufficient degrading activity of chloroethene and a method for cleaning a contaminant such as contaminated soil, etc., using the microorganism.SOLUTION: This bacterium of genus Dehalococcoides has high homology with genome of Dehalococcoides sp. strain BAV1 and low homology with genome of Dehalococcoides sp. strain VS and has vcrA being a vinyl chloride degrading enzyme gene. The method for cleaning a contaminant includes making the bacterium act on a contaminant containing chloroethene to dechlorinate the chloroethene.
