Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce vibrations upon an engine restart when a request to start a vehicle is not involved, while achieving the rapid engine restart brought about by one-compression start.SOLUTION: When a restart condition is satisfied after automatic stop of an engine, it is determined whether or not a piston of a stop-time compression stroke cylinder is relatively in a specified range close to a bottom dead center. In a case where the piston is in the specified range, the engine is restarted by injecting initial fuel into the stop-time compression stroke cylinder. However, in a case where the satisfaction of the restart condition is not based on a driver's start request to start a vehicle, an injection quantity of initial fuel injection performed for the stop-time compression stroke cylinder is set smaller than when the restart condition is satisfied on the basis of the driver's start request.
