Zusammenfassung:	PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent undeflected zeroth order components from reaching an image field when an AOD deflects a laser beam.SOLUTION: Apparatus for selectively deflecting a beam of electromagnetic radiation comprises: a first acousto-optic deflector 30; a second acousto-optic deflector 40; a first polarizer between the first and second acousto-optic deflectors; and a first phase plate 200 between the first and second acousto-optic deflectors. The first polarizer and the first phase plate are arranged to pass first order components of diffraction and to block any zeroth order components of diffraction.
