PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a speed while preventing a reduction in accuracy in AD conversion.SOLUTION: A solid state imaging element comprises: a pixel; a voltage comparing section; a reference signal generating section for outputting a reference signal gradually changing from a predetermined initial voltage with time; and an initial value setting section for outputting the same voltage as the predetermined initial voltage. The voltage comparing section comprises: a first terminal to which a pixel signal is inputted from the pixel; and a second terminal to which the reference signal is inputted, and compares a voltage at the first terminal with a voltage at the second terminal to output a predetermined signal when a magnitude relation between the voltage at the first terminal and the voltage at the second terminal is inverted. The initial value setting section inputs the same voltage as the predetermined initial voltage to the first terminal at predetermined timing.
