Zusammenfassung:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a structure for a cross-type universal joint with which coupling arm parts 15c, 15c of a yoke 12c do not hardly become distorted even when en excessive torque is applied while torque transmission function cannot be easily lost while it can be easily determined, even post factum, that an excessive torque has been applied to the universal joint.SOLUTION: By forming recessed grooves 20, 20 in a base part 14c of a yoke 12c, the rigidity in a twisting direction of the base part 14c is set so that the torsional rigidity of a coupling arm 15c in which the recessed groove 20 is formed is lower than the torsional rigidity of the coupling arm part 15c in which the recessed groove 20 is not formed. When an excess torque is applied, the base part 14c plastically deforms in the twisting direction and suppresses the deformation of both coupling arm parts 15c, 15c to solve the problem.
